Peruvian Brands You Should Know For Their Earth Day Commitment To Sustainability

29.01.25 by Mateo Vargas

In Peru, several fashion brands are making a strong commitment to the planet by innovating their processes and materials. From utilizing natural fibers like alpaca, pima, and organic cotton to embracing natural dyeing techniques and incorporating technology through regenerative and recycled fibers, these Peruvian brands are actively working to benefit the environment. As we celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd—a day that continues to gain importance among the increasingly environmentally conscious community—these brands highlight how Peru’s textile culture is playing a crucial role in sustainability.

MAQU

Founded by Peruvian designer Marisa Fuentes Prado in 2016, Maqu is a nature-focused brand recognized for its sustainable practices. The brand works with premium materials such as alpaca and certified organic fibers, along with cutting-edge technologies like 3D design, which help reduce energy consumption and prototype waste. Maqu also uses natural Peruvian dyes made from ingredients like beetroot, purple corn, and eucalyptus. The brand’s commitment to sustainability extends to plastic-free shipping through GoGreen and carbon offsetting via CO2-neutral transport. Furthermore, Maqu’s Berlin store is powered entirely by GreenPeace Energy. The brand is also committed to social responsibility by preserving traditional textile techniques and supporting fair labor practices with local producers and tailors in Peru. Additionally, a portion of sales from their Arequipa sweater is donated to fund education for children in the Andes.
